Police: Masked Men With Machete Rob Upscale Chelsea Restaurant

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for three masked men who they said robbed a Chelsea restaurant with a machete.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Crema Restaurant on West 17th Street.

As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported, eight-year veteran Crema employee Carlos Preciado said he had never seen anything like it at the eatery.

An employee said three men walked into the restaurant when one of them pulled out a machete and demanded money in Spanish, police said.

Preciado said the bartender quickly left the bar, and one of the robbers yanked the cash register from the wall before all three fled.

The suspects ran west on 17th Street towards Seventh Avenue, police said.

The entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

The suspects were described as Hispanic men in the their 20s all wearing masks.

"I hope they do get them, you know, so it won't happen to someone else, or some other restaurant, or someone else," Preciado said. "We do hope they get caught."
