Mo Wilk On WFAN: It Was Us Against Everyone, Including The Refs, At Lambeau

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Muhammad Wilkerson almost always takes the high road. During his time as a weekly guest on WFAN he's rarely if ever placed blame or been overly critical of anyone in the aftermath of a Jets defeat.

But the big defensive end had a bit of an edge to him Tuesday when he went on with Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts.

He said he can understand why he got ejected in the third quarter of the Jets' 31-24 loss to the Packers, but other things that went on during the game seemed to suggest there wasn't a level playing field.

In case you missed it, Wilkerson was ejected shortly after the Packers took a 24-21 lead early in the third quarter. Randall Cobb caught a 2-point conversion pass from Aaron Rodgers and the next thing you knew helmets were being ripped off heads and Wilkerson was tossed for throwing punches.

"In the heat of the moment, man, you know, things went by so fast, but I was just trying to protect my teammate and stand up for my teammate and my emotions got the best of me and I lost my cool. It's not in my character," Wilkerson said, referring to teammate Sheldon Richardson, who it appeared was being manhandled by several Packers.

Yet while Richardson and Wilkerson were flagged, not a single penalty was called on the Packers.

Curious? Wilkerson said in retrospect he wasn't surprised.

"I was shocked by it, but then again, like I just said, Rex told us it was our sideline against everyone in that stadium, including the refs. There was nothing we could do about that," said Wilkerson, who expects to be fined by the league for the ejection this week.

Asked to cite other examples of the Jets being treated unfairly, Wilkerson was more than happy to oblige.

"You could see how the game went. Those guys were holding us up front. (Jason) Babin, one rush, got pushed into Aaron (Rodgers) and they called roughing the passer. Babin got tackled one play trying to chase down Aaron – no holding call. So, it is what it is," Wilkerson said.

The Jets' best defensive player also gave his take on the infamous timeout that cost the Jets a tying touchdown in the fourth quarter.

"If the rule is only that the head coach can call a timeout, then obviously the play should have been able to stand and it should have been a touchdown," Wilkerson said.

Wilkerson went on to discuss other incidents that angered the Jets, commented on the amount of penalties being called league-wide, addressed his team's beleaguered secondary and gave a sneak peak at this week's opponent, the Chicago Bears.
