Leon Hess, Wayne Chrebet To Be Inducted Into Jets' Ring Of Honor
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Jets are adding two more players to their Ring of Honor.
During Monday night's game against the Bears, the organization announced that former owner Leon Hess and former wide receiver Wayne Chrebet will be honored during halftime on December 1 when the Jets host the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium.
Hess, who died in 1999, acquired part of the franchise in 1963 and was the sole owner of the Jets from 1984-99. A native of Asbury Park, N.J., he founded the Hess Corporation and was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2011.
Chrebet went undrafted out of Hofstra and was signed by the Jets in 1995. A fan favorite, he played with Gang Green until 2005 and finished second in franchise history with 580 receptions. He also ranks fifth in team history with 7,365 yards from scrimmage.
The Garfield, N.J. native's 580 catches are the third-most by a player who wasn't drafted. He finished his career with 41 touchdowns.
The inductees in the Jets' Ring of Honor include Weeb Ewbank, Winston Hill, Joe Klecko, Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, Joe Namath, Larry Grantham, Freeman McNeil, Gerry Philbin, Al Toon, Mark Gastineau, Wesley Walker and Marty Lyons.
