New Jersey Food Pantry Hoping For Mass Donations At Upcoming Food Drive

MORRIS PLAINS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The holidays will be here before you know it, making the issue of hunger more immediate than ever.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, the North Jersey Media Group Foundation will hold its 23rd Annual Action Against Hunger Food Drive, which is sponsored in part by 1010 WINS.

As 1010 WINS' Rebecca Granet reported, the food that's donated during the drive impacts people like Diane, who said she's been receiving help from the Morris County Interfaith Pantry for about a year.

"I'm on a fixed income. I'm on Social Security disability. I have MS," she explained.

The pantry's director of community relations and development, Carolyn Lake, said right now donations are very slow.

"As you can see the shelves are just bare," Lake said. "So we are really hoping that this drive in October is gonna kick things off for us."

Donations, no matter how small, have a large impact, Granet reported.

"I'm glad you're here because if it weren't for (the pantry) I wouldn't have any food in my house," Diane said.
