Quick Thinking Staten Island 7-Year-Old Saves Mother's Life

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 7-year-old Staten Island boy was being credited Monday with saving his mother's life.

When Jayden Allen-Walton's mother passed out during dinner two weeks earlier, the second grader unlocked her cell phone and dialed 911.

"I told them my mom was laying on the ground and that she dropped her phone, and they said they were coming," Walton told CBS 2's Matt Kozar.

After calling paramedics, the precocious 7-year-old phoned his godmother and then jolted to the neighbor's house for help.

Michelene Bumbrey, 41, blames blood pressure for the medication collapse.

She spent several days in the hospital, a place that she is familiar with as a nurse.

The bruise on her forehead reminds Bumbrey of the fall, but her son reminds the single mom of what she's thankful for.

"He didn't react in the way that most children react. He was very brave. He was very calm," Bumbrey said.

Jayden said that he wants to be a professional wrestler one day, he's also added doctor to that list.

"To save people and check their blood pressure," he said.

Oddly enough the fall was a blessing in disguise. While going through tests at the hospital she said that doctors discovered a dangerous heart condition that requires treatment.
