Some Long Island Residents Crying Foul Over New $4.2 Million Sports Complex

EASTPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Loud cheering and glaring lights atop 70-foot poles have residents around a new multi-million dollar sports complex crying foul on Long Island.

Some homeowners claim the $4.2 million Eastport South Manor Athletic Complex is ruining the quality of the life, saying it's like having Yankee Stadium in their backyard.

"The lights are bad at night, I mean they're really a beacon above their properties," said nearby resident Ellis Conklin. "It's changed their life in a way."

"I think they'd be quite bright," said Tony, who is not affected by the glowing facility. "I think they'd definitely be disruptive to the community."

Town officials said they made some changes to try to be more neighborhood-friendly, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

Residents, however, said more needs to be done, but some are exhausted by the fight.

"At this point I'm not so sure anything can be done about it," one man said. "I think it's something you gotta learn to live with."
