Police Search For Long Island Man Missing From U.S. Coast Guard

MANORVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A member of the U.S. Coast Guard who is from Long Island has gone missing.

Petty Officer Christopher Montgomery, 26, was reported missing last Thursday.

The 26-year-old Montgomery has not been seen since he failed to show up at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, where he is stationed, after spending a two-week leave at his parent's home in Manorville, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

His parents and superior officers said Montgomery's disappearance is completely out of character.

Montgomery has served seven years in the U.S. Coast Guard and is scheduled to complete service in April.

Montgomery, who has blue eyes and black hair, is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about  200 pounds. He was last seen wearing shorts, flip flops, and a hoodie.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips to the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

Police said they are treating this as a missing person case and that there is no evidence that Montgomery is the victim of a crime, Xirinachs reported.
