Prosecutors: N.J. Man Sexually Assaulted Girl, 13, Whom He Met Online

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Linden, New Jersey man was being held on $250,000 bail Wednesday, on charges that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl he met on a chat site.

Robert W. Cubala, 28, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's office.

His arrest followed an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and police in Fair Lawn and Elmwood Park, New Jersey.

Prosecutors alleged that Cubala met the girl through an Internet chat site, and met her in person after talking to her online for a period of time.

This past Friday, the girl's mother went to Fair Lawn police reporting that her daughter was sexually assaulted by Cubala, prosecutors said.

Police and prosecutors interviewed the victim, who provided specific details of what allegedly happened in the incident in Elmwood Park, prosecutors said.

Cubala's bail was set by Judge James J. Guida, and he was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail, prosecutors said.
