Step Into Fall With This Season's Boot Trends

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – It's that time of the year and fall boots are everywhere! So what's hot this season and how can you find great styles without breaking the bank?

CBS 2's Cindy Hsu says buckles are hot this season and says look for chunky, stacked heels. If you're on a budget, mix the trends in one boot.

"The combat boot will go with everything. You could wear it with a pair of jeans tucked in, you could also wear it with a skirt. So voila, you have one boot that can do everything," Katlean De Monchy, fashion expert, said.

Hsu says the hot color this fall is wine, but you'll see lots of suede, too. If you go for the suede, take extra care and use a protective spray to brush the boots. Also, stuff tissue paper inside your suede boot to keep their shape.

Another unique boot is called the Ronin, by VC Signature, which has a plunge down the front.

There's also the "shootie" – a mix between a shoe and a bootie with a wedged heel that will make it easier to walk.

Stylist Christine Bibbo-Herr says do your research to get the look for less.

"You can find great buys whether in stores at H&M, Nine West, Aldo, Express or online at Lulus.com, Zappos.com," she said.

If you like the tall, over-the-knee boots, Bibbo-Herr says it's best to keep your legs covered and stay on-trend.

"I'm wearing a black tight with my black boot to create a long, lean line and make it a little more chic and sophisticated," she said.

When you're shopping for boots, it's a good idea to get the comfortable ones so when you hit the store, put them on and wear them around for as long as you can so you know you love how they look and feel before you buy.

It's also better to shop for boots later in the day when your feet are a bit swollen so you'll get the real feel on how they fit.
