Larry Donnell Loses Fantasy Matchup After Benching Himself

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Quick, think of your worst loss ever in fantasy football.

Larry Donnell has you beat.

The New York Giants tight end lost his Week 4 matchup because he benched ... himself.

"Would've won if I played me," he told the Record on Wednesday, adding he was defeated by 15 points after starting San Francisco's Vernon Davis instead.

Donnell had a huge game last Thursday in Washington, scoring three touchdowns en route to a 45-14 win. He had seven catches for 54 yards, a nice boost for owners in PPR (point-per-reception) leagues.

"During the game, I'm like, 'Really?' " Donnell said. "That's the honest truth."

This writer, who will remain nameless, started Donnell and enjoyed a 26.9-point windfall. The other option, Miami's Charles Clay, scored 4.2 points -- and that would have meant a three-point loss. Winning!

Donnell is ranked fourth among tight ends on Fleaflicker.com and is projected to score 16.2 points in PPR leagues against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

That said, the 25-year-old insisted he won't be making the same mistake twice.

"Oh yeah," he told the Record. "I'm in (my lineup this week)."
