Activists Outraged By Video Of Run-In Between Security Guards, Teen At Kings Plaza Mall

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A violent confrontation between a teenager and security guards at the Kings Plaza Shopping Center in Brooklyn was caught on video, and community activists were outraged.

The cellphone video showed a guard punching the young men in the head on Sunday.

Another guard then appears to kick the teen while he is on the ground, and at one point, a hand is around the teenager's neck.

Community activists have called for the guards to be prosecuted.

"When he was down on the ground, they kicked him in his head," said community activist Tony Herbert. "Now, what kind of security does that in regards to the fact that you are trained to be a professional to restrain him, and make sure to wait until the police get here and let them do their due diligence?"

Police said the teen had just assaulted one of the guards before the incident was caught on video.

The same mall in Mill Basin, Brooklyn was in the headlines back in February, after cellphone video showed hundreds of rowdy teenagers storming through the mall shortly before it closed at 9 p.m. , with police officers wrestling young women to the ground.

For three days afterward, the shopping center placed restrictions on visits by young people -- banning minors under 18 unless they had adult supervision.
