Uniondale Man Sentenced To Prison For Fatal 2013 Shooting

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A Long Island man has been sentenced for fatally shooting a man near a church where parishioners were gathering in 2013, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced Wednesday.

Jonathan Mack, 20, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the shooting death of 34-year-old Uniondale man Isaac Andrews in June 2013.

Mack was found guilty of murder and criminal possession of a weapon in August.

Police said Mack, also from Uniondale, got into an altercation with a woman outside the church when Andrews approached him. Mack then pulled out a handgun and shot Andrews three times.  Mack shot the victim a fourth time as he was falling, hitting him in the upper back, police say.

Andrews was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

After fleeing the scene, Mack was found in Florida in July 2013 and arrested and extradited to New York to face charges.
