Eagles' Maclin On Antrel Rolle: 'He Talks Too Much'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle speaks from the heart. It's a trait that has turned his weekly appearances on WFAN over the years into appointment radio.
But Jeremy Maclin has heard enough.
"He talks a lot," Maclin said Wednesday. "He talks too much."
The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver was apparently unhappy with Rolle's assessment of the NFC East. On Monday, Rolle said he thought the division was weak in 2013, when the Eagles finished on top. This season has been a different story, with Philly, New York and Dallas all playing solid football through five weeks.
We'll find out which team is on better footing when the Eagles (4-1) and Giants (3-2) meet Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field. Maclin said the best way to put a muzzle on Rolle is to "go out there and beat him."
TALE OF THE TAPE: GIANTS-EAGLES
On Tuesday, Philadelphia linebacker Trent Cole called Rolle by the wrong first name "Anton" and said the safety "must be feeling our presence," according to the New York Post. Rolle said the same day on WFAN that his comment wasn't meant to discredit the Eagles. He reiterated that point Wednesday.
"I said what I said," Rolle said. "That's no discredit to Philly. Obviously they were the best team in our division last year. They finished 10-6. That's an awesome record for any team in the NFL. I said what I said. Division was weak, in my opinion. That doesn't discredit Philly under any means. If they want to take it that way, then so be it. The game still has to be played come Sunday."
That wasn't the only hot topic. The Eagles were also irked by a photo -- posted on social media by Big Blue superfan "License Plate Guy" -- of Giants cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Prince Amukamara mocking Philadelphia's zero Super Bowl titles.
"Anybody can live in the past, man," Maclin said. "We just have to go out there and take care of business."
Added running back LeSean McCoy: "Whatever, I don't know what to say about it. I guess it's entertainment? I'm not sure."
Giants coach Tom Coughlin didn't take kindly to the photo, either. Rodgers-Cromartie and Amukamara explained themselves to the media Wednesday after being called to do the same in Coughlin's office.
"That got blew up," said Rodgers-Cromartie, who is also without a Super Bowl ring. "We're just two guys taking a picture. Definitely nothing to be disrespectful toward anybody. Just meeting the requirement of a fan. He wanted us to take a picture and we took it."
Amukamara said they weren't thinking about what they were doing when the fan asked them to pose for the photo.
"If we really wanted to say something, we would definitely say something in front of the cameras and microphones," he said.
Intentional or not, it gave the Eagles plenty of bulletin-board material for a huge rivalry game.
And guess what? There's still lots of time for more trash talk.
"We'll talk after the game and let's see what they say after the game," Philadelphia linebacker Brandon Graham said, according to the Post. "I'm fired up right now. I wish we could strap it up right now."
