East Coast Cannabis Business Expo Is Coming To New York City

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- No bongs, no blunts.

Dan Humiston, founding member of the International Cannabis Association, said the 2014 East Coast Cannabis Business Expo, Educational Conference & Regulatory Summit is about opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.

1010 WINS' John Montone told Humiston that when he hears "aspiring entrepreneurs" and "cannabis" in one sentence, he thinks "dealers," but Humiston said that's not the case.

"That's what you used to think because the only people that were in this business were criminals," Humiston replied.

Humiston said the expo will be more Wall Street than Cheech & Chong, Montone reported.

"If you look at this it'll look more like a bankers' convention because everybody here is saying, 'I want to get into this industry,'" Humiston said.

There are opportunities for growers, packagers, sellers, lawyers, security firms and especially investors, Humiston said, adding that getting into the business is like investing in computers in the 1970s.

The event will be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square on Sunday and Monday.

It will feature more than 80 exhibitors and 40 speakers.

The summit will be moderated by St. Sen. Diane Savino and area lawmakers will discuss medical cannabis laws and how they will impact new cannabis business formation, according to the event website.
