Rangers' Dan Boyle Out 4-6 Weeks With Broken Hand

ST. LOUIS (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York Rangers defenseman Dan Boyle is expected to miss four to six weeks after breaking his hand while blocking a shot in his first game with the team.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault revealed the injury following New York's 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues in the season opener Thursday night.

Boyle logged just more than 14 minutes of ice time in his Rangers debut. Vigneault did not say when the 38-year-old veteran got hurt.

The defending Eastern Conference champions signed Boyle to a $9 million, two-year contract in the offseason to help quarterback a spotty power play.

"I want to be clear that I'm not just here to fade into the sunset," Boyle told LoHud.com. "I'm here to win. Even before they went on their run last year to the Cup Final, this is where I wanted to be. I do take pride in helping the younger guys out, but I'm here to work and play and make a difference on the ice."

Boyle had six goals and 12 assists on the power play last season for San Jose and added three power-play assists during a seven-game playoff series against Los Angeles.
