Cardinals, Giants Toy With Rosters Ahead Of NLCS

ST. LOUIS (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Both the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants have tinkered with their rosters ahead of the National League Championship Series.

The Cardinals strengthened their bench by including catcher A.J. Pierzynski on the 25-man roster.

Manager Mike Matheny said Pierzynski gives the team an experienced bat off the bench, and a third catcher that allows for use of backup Tony Cruz.

Pierzynski will replace lefty reliever Sam Freeman on the Cardinals roster.

Meanwhile, the Giants expect to add Michael Morse to the roster for the NL Championship Series.

On Friday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Morse looked good playing in the instructional league, noting that he had homered.

Morse is en route to St. Louis, where the best-of-seven series starts Saturday night.
