Jets Holding Breath After Milliner, Winters Injured In Loss

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York Jets starting cornerback Dee Milliner injured his Achilles tendon in Sunday's loss to Denver.

And it could be serious.

Milliner was seen leaving MetLife Stadium on a cart after the game, crutches at his side. Coach Rex Ryan said simply that it was an Achilles tendon injury, but nothing more.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that the Jets believe Milliner suffered a torn Achilles tendon, which would typically require about one year of recovery.

"I would guess so," Ryan said when asked if Milliner could miss significant time.

Milliner, the team's first-round draft pick in 2013, was hurt on Brandon McManus' 37-yard field goal on the fifth play of the game. He was helped up by team trainers, but couldn't put any weight on the leg. He immediately was taken to the locker room.

Milliner previously this season had been bothered by hamstring and quadriceps issues and missed three games.

"It's unfortunate," Jets cornerback Darrin Walls said after the 31-17 loss. "I think Dee was playing really good. I think he was coming along to be the corner that we know him to be. We're already short at the corner position, so we've just got to step up and make plays."

New York lost left guard Brian Winters to a left knee injury -- feared to be a torn ACL, according to multiple reports -- in the third quarter. Linebacker Trevor Reilly also had a knee problem.

Milliner and Winters will undergo further testing Monday to determine the extent of their injuries, Rapoport reported.
