Parents At 'Boys And Girls' Want City To Take Action, Turn Around Struggling School

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The principal at Boys and Girls High School recently quit, claiming that the city had no plan to turn the school around after giving it an F rating for three years.

At a rally outside of the school on Monday, parents voiced their frustration with what they called empty rhetoric and a lack of a plan to turn around the failing school.

"This struggle continues because of a lack of leadership," Darlene Boston told 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon.

Boston's sons dropped out when the school showed signs of struggling.

Howard Pressley's son is a senior right now. He wanted to know what Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina planned to do to improve the school.

"Give us a plan to help our schools become, once again, a beacon of hope in Bed Stuy," he said.

Boys & Girls graduate Tracey Brinn said that she wants to see her daughter succeed, not only in athletics, but in the classroom.

"Not because of her skills in sports, but because of her knowledge," Brinn said.

The advocacy group Students First New York, said that the school has a 4-year graduation rate of only 39-percent.

1010 WINS' Rincon reached out to the Department of Education, but has not received a response.
