Signage With Positive Messages Go Up In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - In Newark, New Jersey, street signs are now pointing toward happy feelings.

Signage that reads things like "Newark loves you, bruh," and "follow dreams, not crowds" went up Wednesday.

"Happy place, happy street signs, happy Newark," British artist Killy Kilford said.

Kilford came up with the idea for the positive, motivational signs, WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported.

The city liked the idea and now 100 of them are up on street signs with 200 to be posted by the end of the year.

"People have bad days and people have good days, but what this is about is about triggering moments of joy for people, to look up and be like, yeah that's good and carry on," Kilford said.

St. Benedictine Preparatory High School senior Jason Hutchins is along the 250 students who helped come up with the slogans.

"Just making the signs, I made a few of the signs, it just made me smile. It's a good feeling," he said.
