Thousands Kick Off Avon Breast Cancer Walk

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A two-day journey for those on a mission to raise money for breast cancer research began Saturday.

Thousands took on the challenge to walk from Pier 84 to Randall's Island and back again.

Some will cover 13 miles while others will walk the full marathon distance over a two-day period.

Since 2003, the Avon Breast Cancer Walk has raised more than $500 million.
