Suffolk Treasurer: Property Tax Refunds Sent Out To Sandy Victims

"The Sandy relief checks, the refunds and reductions, have started going out to Suffolk County taxpayers," Carpenter said. "We've actually sent out over 100 to date."

The refunds are for property taxes that homeowners had paid and then received a blow when their property values plummeted due to devastation from Sandy.

The Suffolk treasurer said nearly 3,000 homeowners will be getting checks. The refunds total about $8 million, Rivera reported.
