One World Trade Center Observatory To Feature Breathtaking Views

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The observatory of One World Trade Center will offer a view from over 100 stories high starting next spring.

CBS 2's Alice Gainer got a preview of the magnificent One World Observatory on Tuesday.
Just a quick walk from the elevator on the 102nd floor, one will find spectacular views of the island of Manhattan, the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty, and New Jersey – as far as the eye can see.

"This will give them the opportunity to come up and what we call, see forever," said David Checketts, chairman and chief executive officer of Legends Hospitality Management.

The observatory is three floors of public space – you could even rent it out and get married there.

There also will be restaurants, and plenty of opportunities to use technology.

"Using your iPad, you'll be able to point at areas of interest and get a download of data on the Brooklyn Bridge or on Ellis Island," Checketts said.

The observatory spans about 120,000 square feet, and is about 1,250 feet from the ground.

And if you're feeling more daring, there is an option that will give you an illusion of walking right off the edge.

"We'll have a 14 foot-diameter screen that will actually be televised up from a building looking down from a camera; looking down from the top of the building -- and you'll be able to walk onto that screen and get the same sensation you would get if you were hanging out on the edge of that building," Checketts said.

Visitors will also board five elevators called sky pods that travel to the top of the building in under 60 seconds.

Admission for adults ages 13 to 64 will cost $32, compared to $29 for the observatories at the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center. The price for children ages 6 to 12 will be $26. Seniors will pay $30, and kids 5 and younger will be admitted free.

Complimentary admission will also be given to 9/11 family members and 9/11 rescue and recovery workers.
