Tuesday Is Final Day To Register Before Next Week's Connecticut Vote

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Tuesday is the last day for Connecticut residents to register to vote ahead of the Nov. 4 elections.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill said there's sometimes confusion about what someone must do in order to vote in Connecticut.

Frequently, she said, people who have just moved to the state miss an opportunity to vote. It nearly happened when one of her family members told her she couldn't vote because she had not yet received her Connecticut driver's license.

"I said, 'No, no, no, you don't need a Connecticut driver's license," Merrill told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. "You just need your Social Security number and something to show you live at your home."

Town registrars are required to stay open until 8 p.m. Tuesday so that commuters heading home can sign up to vote.
