Boomer & Carton On NYC Marathon: Even If You Can't Run, Go!

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Craig Carton admits he'd never make it past the third mile of the TCS NYC Marathon.

He's better suited to cheer the runners on near the finish line. And if you're in the same boat, the WFAN co-host says you should join him on Sunday.

"I encourage everyone, if you're looking for something to do outside Sunday afternoon ... walk your (self) over to Central Park and try to get a spot anywhere along the last quarter-mile of the New York City Marathon," he said during Friday's "Boomer & Carton" show. "Because if you want to feel honest, organic, raw emotion that you didn't know you have in you for total random strangers who aren't winning a game, who aren't making a buzzer-beating shot, who aren't professionals at doing it but are out there for whatever the reason they're there -- you could stay there for an hour, and I promise you, you will cry and you will feel a sense of joy watching random strangers finish the New York City Marathon."

As co-host Boomer Esiason pointed out, many of the participants will be running 26.2 miles through all five boroughs to raise money for charitable causes.

"I understand all the emotion that comes along with it, maybe better than most, simply because I've seen it over the years," said Esiason, whose eponymous foundation has a team racing to help fight cystic fibrosis.

His son, Gunnar, suffers from CF.

"I see all the stories that have been told through our foundation. So yeah, it's a great day," Esiason said. "And it's something that we as New Yorkers can be very, very proud of."

TIKI GOES LONG

Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber lost 18 pounds in preparation for Sunday's marathon. The CBS Sports Network host will be running for CC Sabathia's PitCCh In Foundation to benefit inner city kids.

"It is a little bit of a bucket-list thing," Barber told Boomer & Carton on Friday. "Only a small percentage of this country gets a chance to run a marathon."

And in turn, Barber will help Yankees ace Sabathia, whose wife will also be running, raise thousands for his foundation.

"It's great," he said.

Run, Tiki, Run

DO IT FOR LOUIE

Later in the program, Carton urged listeners to donate to a team running for Detective Louis Fernandez of Emergency Service Squad 6. Fernandez, one of the officers who sifted through the rubble at the Staten Island landfill after the terror attacks of 9/11, is suffering from Stage 4 cancer. Over $20,000 has been raised for his family. You can donate here.
