1 Dead After Car Strikes Guardrail, Plunges Off Belt Parkway In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An early morning crash in Brooklyn is causing some heavy traffic delays on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn.

It happened around 2 a.m. on the eastbound side of the parkway near exit 13.

A vehicle headed eastbound on the Mill Basin Bridge struck the guardrail and then crossed three lanes of traffic before hitting another guardrail and a light pole, police said.

The car's driver, a 27-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle while his car went over the side of the bridge and plunged to ground below.

CHECK: Traffic

The driver was found on the shoulder of the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity has not yet been released.

The eastbound side of the parkway between exits 11 and 13 was closed for a time, but all lanes have since reopened.
