Collision Sends Garbage Truck Into Nassau County Public Works Building

EAST GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A garbage truck and mini van collided, sending the sanitation truck into an office building on Long Island Wednesday morning.

Officials said the mini van turned in front of the sanitation truck on Commercial Avenue in East Garden City, CBS2 reported.

The vehicles collided and lost control.

Video from the scene showed the sanitation truck had pierced the walls of a Nassau County Public Works office building.

A witness said both drivers were going slowly so the impact came as a shock.

"It was just a loud bang and a lot of smoke, and dust, and dirt. You're just not really sure of what you're seeing but it was major, it was scary," said witness Steve Dupnock.

The driver of the mini van and the two occupants of the sanitation truck were all taken to the hospital.
