Police Release Photo Of Car Allegedly Involved In Brooklyn Hit-And-Run
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Friday released a photo of the vehicle that was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run that left a woman critically injured earlier this week in Brooklyn.
Just after 12:30 p.m. this past Wednesday, the 46-year-old woman was struck around 12:30 p.m. at Fourth Avenue and Union Street, on the cusp of the Park Slope and Gowanus sections of Brooklyn.
Police described the vehicle involved as a blue 2008 Hyundai Elantra, with New York license plates GRM8448. The driver of the vehicle was headed north on Fourth Avenue in the right lane, when he or she ran a steady red light at Union Street, police said.
The vehicle struck the woman as she crossed Fourth Avenue in a marked crosswalk, police said.
The driver then sped off.
Witnesses rushed the woman's side after they realized what had happened.
"I heard screeching; people; commotion outside. I ran outside and there was a bunch of people crowding this woman on the street," one man said. "You know, there was a pool of blood, and it looked like it was bad. It was a mess. She was unconscious. She wasn't responsive."
The woman was initially reported in critical condition with a head injury at Lutheran Medical Center. As of Friday evening, her condition was reported as stable.
Police said a witness took a photo of the specific car used in the crime.
