Westport Police Arrest Man Accused Of Posing As Wedding Guest To Steal Gifts, Checks

WESTPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Police have arrested the man accused of posing as a wedding guest to steal gifts and checks from The Inn at Longshore in Westport, Conn., last month.

Westport Police Captain Vincent Penna said guests attending the wedding and others who recognized the suspect helped them identify 30-year-old Frank Burnett.

At the time of the incident, none of the wedding guests interviewed by police were able to identify the thief.

"Individuals from the public who recognized him from the photos that we put out in the news media, they were able to assist us in identifying him," Penna told WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

According to police, Burnett had been to a wedding at The Inn a few weeks before and took notes on how the checks and wedding gifts were set aside. Pplice said he then he came back a few weeks later to help himself.

Burnett was reportedly captured on video surveillance cameras, and police released screen grabs in hopes somebody might recognize the wedding crasher.

Police won't say if he has a record, but did say the man is no stranger to the law.
