NYPD Locates Officer Who Disappeared With $40K From Fellow Officers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A police officer who disappeared with tens of thousands of dollars has turned up in the Bronx, but there's no sign of the money.

As WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported, 46-year-old NYPD officer Elisha Duncan was supposed to be holding about $40,000 for 60 fellow officers planning to see the New York Giants in Seattle this weekend.

Instead, the 14-year veteran disappeared for two days and it remains unclear what happened to the money.

Fellow police officers found Duncan alone in his car in the Bronx Friday evening. Despite appearing to be in good health, he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Duncan had been seen on surveillance video at the Empire Casino in Yonkers on Wednesday, the day after he disappeared, but it was not clear if he had spent the money he collected.

That same night Duncan reportedly contacted his father, saying he had financial problems, Kosola reported. He also went to see his sister in Manhattan and asked to borrow $1,000, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

Duncan is not facing any criminal charges at this time.
