Police: Man Charged Following Deadly Wreck Outside Of Queens Banquet Hall

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A man is facing charges following a deadly crash in Queens Saturday night.

Kevin Weekes, 20, has been charged with murder, three counts of assault and three counts of reckless endangerment after police said he drove onto the curb and hit three people, killing one of them, outside of a banquet hall at Merrick Boulevard and 225th Street in Laurelton, Queens.

"Bumps, bruises -- she can't remember everything," said Michelle Hall, aunt of one of the victims.

Hall said her 19-year-old niece Kiana Solomon doesn't have many memories from Saturday night as she left a baby shower at the banquet hall, CBS2's Matt Kozar reported.

"Just chaos. A 20-year-old, he ran over somebody with a car," Steven told 1010 WINS' Derricke Dennis.

Solomon's friend, 20-year-old Kevin Lewis, was pinned under the car and died at the scene.

"This was intentionally done," said Hall.

Witnesses said the deadly crash stemmed from a fight that happened outside of the banquet hall.

"The driver deliberately ran down those people," Mark told CBS2's Ilana Gold.

"They came out of the baby shower, getting ready to go home. A fight broke out. She had nothing to do with the fight," Hall said of Solomon.

Investigators said Weekes took off on foot, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported. When police found and arrested him, they said he had stab wounds, suggesting he had been in a fight, Kozar reported.

The third person hit by the car, a 21-year-old woman, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital with head and leg injuries.

In St. Albans, Queens, police officers stood guard outside of Weekes' home. His family wouldn't speak with CBS2 about the crash.

"We're not making any comments right now about anything,"a woman at the door said.

It remains unclear what the fight was about.
