Dog Left In Stolen Car Tracked Down, Reunited With North Bergen Owner

NORTH BERGEN, N.J.(CBSNewYork) -- There was new information on Monday, in the search for a stolen dog named Rambo.

CBS2 first reported on Friday, that Rambo had been inside of a car when a thief jumped in and took off. On Monday, he was back in the loving arms of his rightful owner.

Zulma Solis walked into the North Bergen police station, searching until she saw her 5-year-old Chihuahua.

On Thursday night, Solis left her car running outside of a liquor store in North Bergen as she ran in to grab a bottle of wine.

The Acura model she drove was a push start and she says she took the key fob in with her, thinking the car couldn't be driven without the fob nearby.

Police say the car can be driven until it runs out of gas, it just can't be re-started.

Authorities were able to piece this together on Friday night, when they decided to look at the check cashing counter located inside the liquor store.

Police said that the man in the video matched surveillance video of the man seen taking the car. That man was Nasir Turner of Newark, police said.

"Spoke to the actor over the phone and he agreed to drop the dog off at a safe place, and he decided it would be a fire house," Detective Roberto Maldonado, North Bergen Police, said.

"He looks the same, thank god. He looks like he's been crying. His eyes are a little red," Solis told CBS2's Alice Gainer.

There has been no sign of the car or Turner, but that is of little matter to Solis.

"If you took care of him yourself thank you for that. It's unfortunate you had to take the opportunity to take the car. Justice will take care of that," she said.

Solis plans to get Rambo microchipped. Turner faces charges of auto theft and theft with a domestic animal.
