Police: 2 Men Shot, Killed Inside Bronx Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people are dead after a shooting inside an apartment building in the Bronx.

It happened just before 11 a.m. Monday at the Morrisania Houses on Park Avenue near 159th Street in Melrose.

Police: 2 Men Shot, Killed Inside Bronx Apartment Building

Two men were found shot inside an elevator in the building, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported. The men had both been shot once in the head, police said.

The two were taken to Lincoln Medical Center where they were pronounced dead, police said.

They were identified as Darryl Page, 26, and Tykquan Fennell, 23 -- both of the Bronx.

Video from the scene showed multiple police cars and officers around the building, CBS2's Jim Smith reported. Police could also be seen walking around scaffolding above the sidewalk.

The shooting was apparently the result of a simmering dispute between two groups, Jones reported. The double homicide comes on the heels of another shooting just last night involving the same two groups, Jones reported.

Two women said the huge apartment building where Monday's shooting took place is known as "Vietnam" because it's a war zone.

"They hang out around here and it's bad. I've been here for like 10 years and they're still here," one woman said.

"They like down talk the police killing people but they do it to each other over stupid stuff," another woman chimed in.

One suspect was arrested and rushed away from the scene in handcuffs, taken to the 44th Precinct, Jones reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
