Police Accuse Man Of Damaging Tires On Long Island

DEER PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 56-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly damaging the tires of more than 19 vehicles in the past month, Suffolk County Police said.

The vehicles were vandalized in the parking lots of the Deer Park Library, Deer Park Bowl, and various supermarkets between early October and the beginning of November, police said.

The tires were punctured with a sharp object, police said.

The authorities and victims are still assessing costs of the damage, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

Scott Silverman of Deer Park was arrested Sunday and charged with 19 counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and one count of third-degree criminal mischief in connection with the case.

He is expected to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation is continuing.
