Lynbrook Residents Complain About National Grid's Overnight Work

LYNBROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Some droopy-eyed Long Island residents say they haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks -- not since National Grid started drilling and doing overnight road work on a gas main near their homes.

The work is being performed on Merrick Road in Lynbrook, WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reported.

"They start their work usually after midnight, and it goes on most of the night," said one homeowner who asked to remain anonymous. "And it's very disruptive.

"You know, people get up and have to go to work in the morning," he added.

Homeowners want the work rescheduled during daylight hours.

National Grid apologized for the inconvenience and said it's trying to minimize traffic problems by doing the work overnight.
