Police Seek Mother Of Dead Newborn Found At Monmouth County Recycling Center

FARMINGDALE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- State Police are still trying to find the mother of a dead newborn that was found in the trash at a recycling center in New Jersey.

The body of the baby girl was found by an employee at the ReCommunity Recycling facility in Farmingdale on Nov. 11. It's believed the baby was born the day before.

An autopsy has not determined the cause of death.

Investigators are asking for help identifying any women who were pregnant last week, but no longer appear to be pregnant and do not have a baby.

"She may have worn baggy clothing, out of season attire and you may have seen a noticeable change in her physical appearance. Recently, she may have resumed some of her normal activities and she may have begun to wear more form fitting attire," State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes said in a statement. "Don't assume a child was put up for adoption. Don't assume a baby was miscarried or stillborn. Give us a call. This newborn little girl deserves to have an identity and we need to ensure that the mother is alright."

Authorities said so far, there is no evidence that the mother is a victim of foul play, but said that possibility has not been ruled out.

"The tragedy here is that a newborn was disposed of in the trash, and we need to find answers as to why," said Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni in a statement. "It is important to determine the welfare of the mother and make sure she is not also a victim."

Police said two blood-stained blouses and a shopping bag from Orange found in the trash are believed to be tied to the mother.
