Mets' Wheeler: I Don't Want To Get Traded Because I Know 'We're Going To Win'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If the Mets are going to acquire a big bat in a trade, they'll have to part with some of their prized young pitching.

Those prized young pitchers include Matt Harvey, Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler.

But general manager Sandy Alderson has acknowledged that he's reluctant to part with any of his blue-chip arms.

Wheeler hopes his GM stays in that frame of mind.

"I'd rather not get traded, but I've been through it before," the 24-year-old told reporters at Citi Field on Thursday. "I know how it goes. I know it's the business. So I'd rather not get traded and stay here because I know what's about to happen here."

What is about to happen here, Zack?

"We're going to win," the right-hander proclaimed.

With Harvey back in the fold, the Amazin's are expected to have one of the most formidable pitching staffs in the majors.

"If you're human, you can only look at our staff and be like, 'Yeah, they're going to make it to the playoffs here soon, and get a couple of bats and be ready to go,'" Wheeler said.

They've already gotten one of those bats, signing corner outfielder Michael Cuddyer to a two-year $21 million contract. Next on the checklist? Adding a shortstop.

Alderson has been optimistic when talking about his club this offseason, and both deGrom and manager Terry Collins said that this team has what it takes to make the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Wheeler went 11-11 with a 3.54 ERA in 32 starts for the Mets last season.
