FedEx Rage? Police Say Angry Elmont Man Pointed Gun At Delivery Driver

ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An Elmont man has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing after police said he threatened a Federal Express driver with a handgun.

Carlo Sicat, 59, was arraigned Friday morning. Bail was set at $50,000 bond, $25,000 cash.

Neighbor Diego Venegas said it all began Thursday afternoon when the driver left his truck, blocking Sicat's driveway on Atherton Avenue, and disappeared to make deliveries.

Police: Elmont Man Pointed Gun At FedEx Driver Over Blocked Driveway

"I don't see the reason why the guy was parked in front of his driveway. He had plenty of space on both sides of the street," Venegas told 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera. "It was empty."

Police said Sicat arrived home and became angry when he saw that he could not park in his driveway.

That's when he went into his house and grabbed a gun, police said.

When the driver returned, they got into an argument and Sicat pointed the loaded gun at him, Rivera reported.

The driver, who was unharmed, fled and called police.

Officers responded to the scene and arrested Sicat without incident. A weapon was recovered.

Sicat's son, Ian, said his father was fed up.

"It didn't just happen once or twice, like every time there's FedEx or UPS guys they would be blocking the driveway," Ian Sicat said.

Sicat's wife told CBS2's Jennifer McLogan her husband showed the weapon and did not point it. She added he was a college-educated dentist in their native country of Philippines and his behavior was meant as a warning.

"He's a good man," Susan Sicat said.

FedEx has responded, saying, "We are thankful that our driver was not injured, FedEx continues to cooperate fully with the authorities."

Police warn over the next six weeks, there will be a flurry of holiday package deliveries and remind residents and motorists to remain calm and never take the law into your own hands.

Sicat is due back in court Tuesday.
