Cops: Father Accidentally Shoots, Kills Son While Hunting In West Windsor, N.J.

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Police say a father has accidentally shot and killed his adult son during a hunting trip in New Jersey Saturday afternoon.

Police say the older man, in his 70s, mistakenly shot his 45-year-old son in the back of the head.

Police were dispatched to Old Trenton Road, a large farm, around 4:15 p.m., where officers and medical personnel found the man dead, Lt. Matthew Kemp told WCBS 880.

"Everyone is in shock, the father who was out there, the responding family members-- it's a very tight-knit family. The whole community is really shaken up by it," Kemp said.

West Windsor police and the Mercer County prosecutor's office are investigating, but Kemp says all indications point to it being a hunting accident and nothing more serious than that.
