Hunter In NJ Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man who was hunting geese with his father died after he accidentally shot himself in the head and neck, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area of West Windsor. But further details on how the shooting occurred have not been disclosed.

The victim, identified only as a 45-year-old Chesterfield man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The father apparently was not injured.

The two men were hunting by themselves and had Canada goose decoys spread out in front of their blind, authorities said. They said both men were properly licensed to hunt the birds.

Initially, police said the father had shot and killed the man.
