Eli On WFAN: Giants Have A Job To Do Over The Final 5 Games
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- While Odell Beckham Jr. was the talk of the sports world on Monday due to his jaw-dropping catch on Sunday night, the Giants still lost the game and are now in the throes of a six-game losing streak, their second such streak in two seasons.
That doesn't sit well with quarterback Eli Manning, who spoke about his 3-8 football team with WFAN's Mike Francesa on Monday evening.
"Overall, there was a lot of good, but not quite enough to get the win," Manning said. "It's one of those games you can't play to the stats. You have to play to the game, and we didn't do enough."
Manning had one of the best games of his season, going 29-of-40 for 338 yards, three touchdowns and just one interception in the 31-28 defeat, but the Giants had no answers for the Cowboys' "Big Three" -- quarterback Tony Romo, running back DeMarco Murray and wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Romo threw for 275 yards and four TDs, while Murray ran for 121 yards and Bryant had seven receptions for 86 yards and two scores.
The Giants are now 10-17 over the last two seasons.
"It's tough. Like you said, we were used to winning those tight games. We'd find a way," Manning said, referring to Big Blue's Super Bowl winning seasons of 2007 and 2011. "It's frustrating. We're trying to figure out how to get that magic back. I'm proud of the way the guys are competing. They are fighting their tails off. We still want to keep going, get a little hot streak, something we can be proud of. We have worked too hard not to get these wins."
Beckham, the impact rookie who has 41 receptions in just seven games this season, had 10 catches for 146 yards and two TDs. But the other nine were overshadowed by the incredible one-handed 43-yard scoring grab he made to begin the second quarter.
"The more you watch it, the more you are impressed by it. It was a very impressive play by Odell. He's a playmaker," Manning said.
The Giants have an excellent chance to end their slide this Sunday as they travel to Jacksonville to take on the 1-10 Jaguars, who have lost four straight. Manning said the final five games are important for the franchise heading into next season.
"This is not about me here. We're dealing with people's lives, their jobs, their livelihoods, their families. You have a responsibility to practice hard, be prepared, do your job and do it at a high level," Manning said. "Let's go get a win, get a little positive atmosphere. Hey, Jacksonville has played some teams tough. We have to do our jobs."
