Authorities Identify 2 People Killed In Paterson House Fire

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities have identified the two people killed last weekend when a fast-moving roared through their Paterson home.

Paterson police say 24-year-old Jaclyn Pruyn and 45-year-old Eddy Nelson Diaz died in the two-alarm fire on Union Avenue that was reported around 4:40 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters tried to enter the home, but initially were forced back by the heavy flames. Pruyn was found on the first floor of the home, while Diaz was found on the second floor. The victims' dog also died in the fire.

"It's bad," a woman who watched as the victims' bodies were carried from the home told 1010 WINS' Derricke Dennis on Sunday. "Two people died. That's all we can say."

"A hard situation," another neighbor added.

The blaze also spread to a neighboring home, causing some damage and displacing at least seven people.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
