Brooklyn Man Charged Following Fatal Crash On Long Island

VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York State Police have charged a motorist with vehicular homicide and drunken driving following a deadly single-car crash on Long Island.

Bilal Hassan, 23, of Brooklyn, was attempting to exit the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Nassau County early Thursday morning when he lost control of his 2014 Infiniti, authorities said. The vehicle struck a tree and burst into flames.

Hassan sustained serious injuries, including two broken legs and head trauma. He had to be extricated from the car before being treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Newsday reported.

The passenger in the car, Malih Takkouche, 23, of Brooklyn, was killed.

Hassan has been charged with aggravated vehicle homicide, second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated.

The incident remains under investigation. It was unknown Thursday if Hassan has an attorney.
