6-Year-Old Launches Campaign Against Costumed Characters Who Harass Tourists For Tips

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Many in New York City have complaints about the costumed characters in Times Square, but one little girl may have come up with a solution.

Kamila, 6, believes all hugs should be free. So she launched an Indiegogo campaign to buy all the Disney costumes available and drive away all the characters who harass tourists for tips, CBS2 reported.

"Because if they don't have the money they become sad so I want to make it free," she told CBS2's Steve Langford.

So far, Kamila's campaign raised $465 of the $20,000 goal.

"After that I'm going to take all my friends and we are gonna go to Times Square and I am gonna take free pictures with everyone," she said.

Kamila's proud parents say it all started with their daughter's regular trips through Times Square.

"The vision that it should be free beats regulation, laws and everything that so far they've been trying to do to fix the problem," her father, Mikhail Filshtinskiy, said.

In Times Square, mum is the word among characters, but tourists seem enchanted, Langford reported.

"Now a kid, coming up with that idea also is very, I mean, we would love that," Diana Nelson said, visiting from Washington D.C.

"I think it should be a service, it should be a free service," Illinois resident Jodi Hernandez said.

The campaign is set to end on Dec. 22.
