Residents Shop Local For Small Business Saturday
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Small Business Saturday is in full swing across the Tri-State area.
Jim Wittmann said a special day dedicated to shopping and eating at local, independent businesses can bring in new customers, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.
"A lot of people sometimes like to go out to eat where they are comfortable, where they know, especially if they're not from around here," he said.

Wittmann, who is the manager of The Grey Dog restaurant on Mulberry Street, said they can get overshadowed by big chain stores and restaurants.
He said their goal is to make people feel like they're at home.
"You know, I think they wanted to celebrate the small business owner and give that big round of applause that they so well deserve," Wittmann said.
Bakers at Little Cupcake Bakeshop in SoHo could barely keep up, CBS2's Ilana Gold reported.
"We get slammed with all of our customers," Mara Milic said.
Many of the customers came to check out the shop for the first time.
"We love to go out and try new and local businesses and support them," Steve Hacker said.
As Gold reported, this is the fifth year of Small Business Saturday and many workers have noticed a huge difference when it comes to sales.

In Park Slope, they decide to combine Small Business Saturday with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, bringing out children and shoppers of all ages.
As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, local business owners said it's better to come to neighborhoods to spend money at unique, family-owned businesses rather than fighting the hustle and bustle of the malls which have the same offerings.
