Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Set To Launch Winter Showcase

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As winter rolls in, area residents and tourists will be looking for some indoor activities to turn to. And as always, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world's premier dance companies, is preparing a winter showcase filled with new productions and fan favorites.

CBS2's Andrea Grymes interviewed dancers Glenn Allen Sims and Linda Celeste Sims about the upcoming shows.

"I would personally say, as a guy who dances, that when you come see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater ... it's not only athletes onstage -- graceful athletes -- but it's something that gives to each individual person that's in the audience," Glenn Allen Sims said. "It's something that reaches every audience member's heart."

The more than two dozen winter performances begin Wednesday and run through Jan. 4 at New York City Center. For more information, click here.

The dancers also discussed the presidential medal of freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, that was posthumously awarded to Ailey last week.

"Alvin Ailey always said that dance came from the people and should always be delivered back to the people," Linda Celeste Sims said.
