Police Hunt For Suspects In Bronx, Newark Barbershop Robberies

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for the suspects in two armed robberies at area barbershops.

On Friday night in the Bronx, a man received a haircut before he and two accomplices used a gun to rob the barbershop's patrons and remove the cash register, police said. The robbery happened at 953 Westchester Ave. in East Morrisania.

There were no reported injuries.

Police say the armed man who received the haircut is Ramael Pierson, 24, 1010 WINS' Kevin Rincon reported. Authorities have released a photo of Pierson from a 2008 arrest, as well as surveillance video of all three suspects.

"It's kind of ridiculous," said a man who works nearby. "This is a time for people that are just too are too lazy to work."

On Saturday, there was a similar incident at a busy barbershop on North Sixth Street in Newark. There, two masked men robbed 10 people and four barbers, police said. One of the robbers had a gun and fired a shot into the ceiling, authorities said.

Police say there are no indications at this time the two incidents are connected. Cops are asking for the public's help in both cases.
