Carmelo Anthony 'Not Gonna Panic' About Knicks' Brutal Start

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Knicks are off to an embarrassing 4-14 start, but their best player and leader is remaining calm and keeping his composure.

At least publicly.

"That comes down to us as individuals, whether we panic or not," Carmelo Anthony told reporters. "Me being one of the leaders of this team, I'm not gonna panic, so none of my teammates are gonna panic."

The 'Bockers have dropped 13 of 15 games heading into Tuesday's matchup against the Nets at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks desperately need a victory over the rival Nets, who are also struggling. Brooklyn, 6-9, has lost seven of nine after starting 4-2.

In their first meeting at Barclays Center on November 7, the Nets beat the Knicks with relative ease.

Anthony -- who signed a five-year, $124 million deal in July to stay with the Knicks -- is trying to keep any and all negativity out of the locker room.

"I think anytime you're losing basketball games, negativity, lack of confidence can start to seep in," the seven-time NBA All-Star said. "But that's something I don't want to deal with; we shouldn't have to deal with. So we gotta go out there, play our game, play basketball and try to find a way to win."

Anthony has been the only real scoring weapon for the Knicks thus far this season. In 16 games, the veteran is averaging 23.7 points, 3.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds.
