Woman Killed In East Village Fire Identified As Author, Bar Owner

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The woman found dead early Wednesday in an East Village apartment fire has been identified as a writer who also co-owned a bar in Brooklyn.

Police and firefighters responded around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday to call of a fire at 31 E. 1st St. After firefighters put out the fire, the woman was found unconscious and unresponsive in the basement apartment, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police identified the woman as Evelyn Dahab, 33. Her Facebook page said she was a writer and part-owner of Lucey's Lounge in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Officials told CBS2 the fire was accidental, and the fire broke out near an outlet or power strip with too many items plugged in.
