2-Mile Oil Slick Spotted Near Sandy Hook Bay
SANDY HOOK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities on Thursday were trying to figure out what caused a two-mile-long, 400-foot-wide oil slick that was discovered near Sandy Hook Bay offshore from New Jersey.
Coast Guard officials said the slick was reported around 1:45 p.m.
It was not clear late Thursday where the slick originated or how it was to be cleaned up or contained.
Officials were concerned that the spill could impact wildlife that inhabit the bay, including seals that migrate to the area each winter.
