Yonkers Fire Department Asks You To Help 'Fill The Boot'

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - If you're in the Yonkers area this weekend, consider stopping by the local fire department to help spread some holiday cheer.

As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported, quarters, nickels, dimes, hundred dollar bills-- firefighters asking you to "fill the boot" will take it all.

All the money collected on Central Avenue this weekend will go toward children's charities like the Ronald McDonald House.

"You go down there and you think you're going to do something for them and you're going to give them some holiday cheer and what ends up happening is they end up bringing you up and cheering you up and smiling. And their attitudes are unbelievable and when you hear their stories of treatments and what they're going through and they just give you this unbelievable energy," firefighter Joe Golanzinski said.

And talk about generous-- one woman who didn't have any money on her tossed her iPod into the boot, Adams reported.
